Wilderness Retreat? No Thanks
How does a wilderness retreat sound to me? Well maybe camping sounds fun but not escaping civilization forever. I mean yes escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life would be relaxing but only for a couple days. I do not think I would want to live like Chris and his other adventurers did. These guys gave up the need for showering; think of how disgusting that is and how that would affect your experience of the trip. I find the outdoors to be very relaxing and soothing when you need a break from every day life. This does not mean I'd be walking around in the forest for years smelling like I've already died. I know these guys were just looking for a getaway or some adventure but I think they took it a little too far. Most of them ended up dead which took their little experiment of the wild to the max. Go on vacation for a little while, don't kill yourself over trying to prove the point of that the forest life is better. These peoples should not have had to stay in that forest so long without people worrying about them. Their families or loved ones should have at least made bigger attempts to find them and save them before they hurt themselves. That's what I think is the sad part of this whole thing. Maybe it wasn't about just proving their point of the unindustrialized life was great. Maybe they were trying to show people how neglected they felt and how much they wanted someone to save them. I always wondered what drove these people to just cut loose from everything in today's society and just leave without a trace. Maybe it was something underneath the surface that wanted them to leave town. The adventurers say they wanted adventures, maybe they wanted someone to save them from the dangers of them. That's just my thoughts on all of these stories. I mean I would love to escape my never ending schedule of the same old boring thing every week. School five days a week then home to homework then to after school activities then finishing homework then trying to sleep and waking up to start the cycle again. I mean we all wait for summer for that cycle to stop, we don't just leave town and kill ourselves over our hate of cycles and homework. That's my main point on this whole situation, I think these adventurers took everything way too far. A get away is nice but isn't that what the beach is for?
